More like 24/Ehhhhh when we feel like showing the fuck up for work because I have lazy settlers it seems.
Cat’sPaw Bar (dive) Located temporarily inside one of the old houses in Sanctuary City. It’s already too small. And Damn, Marcy… What’s got you so mad you want to stab someone with a fork? Oh.. Jun’s talking to someone that’s not yelling at him all the time…. I see.
Sure, it’s not the DugOut or ThirdRail, but it’s a watering hole and it boosts town morale. Sometimes, no matter the reason, it’s better to just not drink alone either

I am not sure if I ever posted her finished design or not. so TADA!
After a quick couple promises, Valentina gave her guardian angel a quick hug and peck on the cheek.
“Now, one more time.” Magnolia straightened a small strand of Val’s ponytail into place. She always admired its honey color and how well the woman took care of it. “I promise.” And she meant it as she reached for the door and opened it with a lighter heart. Even for just a moment…
As fate would have it, that same moment Piper and Johan stepped out of their room directly across the hall. Valentina didn’t have to worry about the look on her face as even almost colliding into them, the refused to make eye contact with her.
Piper seemed more bundled in her trademark red coat than usual. She appears to pretend Val didn’t exist even when Val put on a quick smile. A smile that faded into confusion rather quickly. Turning her head to Johan, a smile less bright and still tainted with confusion. She was greeted with the same avoidance as the two were suddenly a pair of backs bathed in the light of the morning lit hall.
She felt one brow lift slowly while its mate lowered. The sudden snickering behind her made that stop quickly. Turning to give Mages a shrug, Val dusted off her hat out of habit. “I guess I’ll go home. Hey, Mags…?” “Yeah Val?” “Thanks for everything.” “Hey, we gals gotta stick together. But you just be safe getting home.”
Val left the hotel and her thoughts behind as she headed over to Daisy’s. Daisy often let the dogs stay there when the friends started drinking. She’d owe Daisy for an all nighter now. Daisy wasn’t one to take advantage of. Not like you really ever could get one over on her, but Daisy had always been a stand-up lady.
A little while later, the jingle in her pocket was a lot of caps lighter. But Cupid was happily toting a very over priced new teddy bear out of Goodneighor in her teeth. Anytime Val mentioned how handsome the bear was, the white mutt would perk her ears and make even happier noises.
They’d left on their own for the long trip back to Sanctuary. Val and Cupid were on their own it seems. Cait must have gone on ahead, she said she had something to take care of in Diamond City and may be a few days. Preston, Simone, Johan and perhaps Piper had all headed back to the castle as Dog was not anywhere Val could see in Goodneighbor. Val and Cupid would make a stop at a few of the settlements along the way to rest and to catch up. Some of the kids loved to play with Cupid when she’d come visit. It was more than obvious that Cupid very much enjoyed the attention. Mostly the stops acted as a good distraction for Valentina and a chance to see if any news of Angel or anything else for that matter.
It was easier for the duo to travel during daylight than night. Cupid’s coat made her stand out quite a bit even when Val let her stay kinda dirty and tried to get some profile armor. But leaving this early, if they kept the visits short, they’d be home before sunset.
“You ready girl?” Val did take the new bear from Cupid and tucked it into her own pack before slinging it on her shoulders. A quick sound Val could only assume was ‘yes’ came with a wagging tail. “After you then.” Val smiled and held the door open to the Commonwealth.
For my darling @helloaschefire, I promised some writing today for her to read while she was away. I didn’t forget. I’m working on the rest right now. Continuation of Tugging on the Curtain, Chp 2
She pried herself from the folds of the guest sofa, Valentine now knew how the duck tape felt when it was pulled off something. She squinted through dry swollen eyes about the room until the small particles of dust floating in the morning beams seemed no more planet sized. Running a hand from the top of her lopsided hot mess of bedhead to sandpaper dry cheeks, she wondered if she just passed the hell out.
Her head felt like she’d slipped on the third rail instead of drank at it. She’d gone back to her friend’s place to finish a bottle, that ended up another and then another. She could swear she could still taste that last drink on her parched salt covered lips.
“Here you go darlin.” Val looked up to see Mag gently looking down at her. In her hands, a small bowl of warm water covered with a wash cloth on a mirrored tray waited for Val to take it. “Can’t have you go out looking like.”
Once Valentina took it, Mag’s alabaster hand reached out and smoothed part of a wild cowlick Val had gotten from having her face buried in the couch arm. Her voice was soft though concerned. “I don’t think you moved a muscle as you slept, Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. But either way, you really needed to rest.”
“Thank you, I’m sorry…” “Sorry for what?” Magnolia reached down and started folding the blanket she covered Valentina with. “All this,” Val whispered trying so hard to wish it’d not been necessary. “Sorry for needing a break?” “For being a burden,” Val made a face as she saw her cheeks were indeed tear stained. “You should apologize to yourself then.” Mags laughed lightly watching Val wash her face. “And I’m sorry I looked in this mirror.” “There you go, using humor as a mask again. You’re not fooling everyone you know.”
Mags walked away on that comment messing with a small plate of tarberry as Val heard the sounds of GoodNeighbor waking up reaching inside from the streets. She looked almost human again and took a deep breath trying to fix her hair. A quick snap of a hair tie told her it would be a pony tail kind of day. It seemed the day was already conspiring against her.
“As long I’m fooling the ones that matter.” “Awe, and here I thought I mattered.” the fake hurt was enough to make her crack a smile. “Mags, you always matter. But I don’t think there’s a person alive or dead that could fool you.” “Well, ain’t you sweet.” She offered to share the berries with Val who declined at first. On feeling her stomach turn, still filled with liquor she assumed, she changed her mind and quickly took two as Magnolia went to take a seat next to her.
“I’ve seen how he looks at you.” Mags watched for a reaction and immediately got it. Val started laughing and then choking on the bite of tarberry. “Who and what the fuck are you talking about.” Val was red from lack of oxygen and a little embarrassment. Magnolia only took another bite. Her long legs crossed and her vision straight.
1st Sorry for the rushed doodle 2nd I got moody af and had to get it out. 3rd I am new to this thing. My very empty Ao3 and more under cut (longish post)
Late Hours in the Third Rail and a much-needed bit of R&R. How long had it been since they all had a moment to get together no one could recall exactly. As the hour and tab grew, the group became smaller as some took to their hotel rooms across the street to sleep off the night’s effects. Val and Piper were spotted on the other side of the bar with their heads together. Conspiring glances and smiles made their way to the bar where Mac and Johan still hung out listening to Magnolia’s magical voice.
Val’s grin grew quite wicked as she passed Piper a small something and whispered in her ear.
“Those two look up to something?” Jo motioned with the bottle in his hand before putting it to his lips. Mac’s attention was drawn quickly to them, and he was able to see exactly what it was as Piper stared at it, her face growing a shade or red to rival her coat. Knowing what was going on made his face start to change a hue too. As soon as he opened his mouth with a smart but discreet response, Johan spoke.
“Oh, mutfruit.” Johan was more puzzled though as he saw how red Piper was and trying to hide the fruit suddenly. “What’d she embarrassed about, I wonder? She knows how to cook.” Quickly placing his hand over his mouth to keep his mouth shut, Mac could only nod. He wasn’t sure if he’d cuss, laugh, or choke. The restraint wouldn’t have to be kept long as Valentina and Piper were making their way back across the floor.
“Well buddy,” Mac slapped a hand on Jo’s shoulder before walking towards to the back room. “You have a great night.” “Hey, Blue. You ready to go?” Piper wouldn’t make eye contact suddenly but seemed less red. Jo looked from Piper to Val in search of an explanation or clue or whatever. Anything would have been welcome. Instead, he was greeted by Val sitting at the far end of the bar giving him only a wink and a sideways smile for an answer.
“Hey Charlie, Whiskey please.” Val turned away sliding caps across the scruffed bar top. “This one’s on me, Charlie.” Valentina knew that silky voice in an instant. Magnolia had finished her set and slid onto a stool next to her. Val didn’t even hear what Charlie said as she saw the last of the party leave for the night.
“That was sweet of you, Darlin.” Magnolia put a drink in front of Val to get her attention again. “I didn’t do it for her, Mags.” She let her guard down around very few people, and somehow the Songbird always made the truth fall right out of Val’s mouth. “Then why’d you do it?” “I want him to be happy, enjoy what moments he can.” Then she caught herself. “They can” Magnolia looked at her a little and smiled that smile, that one that said she sees everything as Valentina slammed her drink. “Well, what about your guy?” She didn’t need to nod to the other room. They both knew exactly who they were talking about though. “He’s got to go to the Capital, and we agreed to wait, when nothing not even living is guaranteed, was a bad idea.” “Charlie, another round please.” “Coming right up Mags.” Magnolia barely touched her drink. But two more came. Her pale graceful hand slid them in front of Valentina. “And your gal?” “Angel?” Valentina shrugged but smiled a little suddenly, briefly. “It’s complicated?” That caused Magnolia to laugh and Valentina down another drink. “We’re both ladies of the spotlight, and it can be lonely even with a million admirers,” Magnolia took a slow sip watching Val stare in her last drink. “Let’s go finish these drinks in my room.”
Val looked up and around the now empty Third Rail. Magnolia saw the swell forming in the amber eyes of her friend even though Val blinked them away and nodded, getting to her feet.
“Mags?” “Yeah?” She put her arm around Val’s shoulders. “Thanks” “No thanks needed. You can help me finish off a new bottle. You’ll be doing me a favor, Darlin.” Magnolia knew women like she and Val never let their face crack in public.
1. Earlier that morning. 2. Valentina: “Jo, it’s raining.” 3. Johan: “That’s why we are under this … uh …” 4. Valentina: “It’s called a roof.” 5. Johan: “Carport.” 6. … or alternate Valentina: “I’m hungry.”
of course, she’d be hungry too! I wonder who is the better cook?!
I can totally see her screwing up some words now and then, carport, roof, and a lot of “That’s what I said!” even though that is NOT what she said at all.
“I’ll never understand everything about you, about this world. But I understand you more than anyone else… so be angry, be pissed, be hurt. It’ll be my job to be here.”
To be continued… I just wanted to share my first pose pic with @helloaschefire who has been teaching me about it. Thank you for all the patience and beautiful inspiring shots. Johan belongs to the amazing @helloaschefire!
